Programs Currently Running

Newly Arrived Youth Support Service

Program/ project overview: The Newly Arrived Youth Support Service (NAYSS) initiative provides culturally appropriate services including early intervention and transition, for newly arrived young people aged 12 to 21 and their families.

Primary Focus: The focus of NAYSS is to provide support and advocacy to young people and their families who are effected by homeless, or are at risk of homelessness, to improve their level of engagement with family, work, education, training and the community by using a variety of strategies such as counseling, family mediation, brokerage and practical support.

Referral Criteria: Youth are able to be referred into this program if they are:

  • aged between 12-21 years old and
  • arrived in Australia 5 years ago or less

How to Refer: To make a referral to this program obtain the client permission (or their parents). Once the permission has been granted please the Child, Youth & Family team on 3290 1295

Get Set for Work ‘Skills to Pay the Bills’

Program/ project overview: The Skills to Pay the Bills Program is a 10 week employment and training program that will target CALD (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse) youth aged 15-19. This program will teach CALD young people all the skills they will require to successfully seek, secure and maintain employment as well as providing them with accredited training with a Certificate 1 in Work Preparation (Community Services). This project will be based at MultiLink Community Services Youth facility at Ben Matthews Park.

Referral Criteria: Youth are able to be referred into this program if they are:

  • aged between 15-19 years old
  • Culturally diverse
  • Unemployed or underemployed (less than 25 hours per week)
  • Not enrolled in education or training

Rainbow Playgroup

Program/ project overview: Rainbow Playgroup operates on a Wednesday and a Friday from 10.00am to 12 noon

Primary Focus: For families and carers with under school age children to meet and provide support networks to each other.  To encourage children to learn and play in a fully supported playgroup, in a holistic environment.

My Space and My Club youth groups

Program/ project overview: After School and Holiday programmes are available across the year for youth aged 8 to 16.  On a Saturday we meet here from 9.00am till 1.30pm.

Primary Focus: For youth to get homework assistance, resume writing assistance and to have a safe place to hang out and enjoy games and sports, arts and crafts with friends across many cultures.

The Parent and Children’s English Class

Program/ project overview: Every Tuesday, during school term from 9.30am to 11.30 am, a specialist child and parent English class is held at Blackwood Road for parents and small children. This c lass is designed to create an environment where children can be included in a safe environment and to be a part of the acquisition of English as a second language.

Primary Focus: To provide a safe and inclusive English class for parents and children.
